Free play: Students choose between play in the block room, reading and games in the library or art projects in the art room. Parent helpers invite the children to participate in a directed art project, and monitor the art room.
10:20 — 10:50
Clean up and snack time: With guidance from the teacher and parent helpers, the children clean up all the toys and art work, wash hands and prepare the art room for snack time. One parent helper’s day is done at this point, while the other parent helper provides a healthy snack.
10:50 — 11:20
Group time: Head teacher Kris Moore leads students through songs, discussion of weekly topics and reads stories. The remaining parent helper puts artwork in the students’ totebags, cleans up art supplies and lightly cleans the school until dismissal.
11:20 — 11:50
Outdoor play: Swinging and sliding on our play structures, riding tricycles, climbing trees, blowing bubbles, building sandcastles, sidewalk chalk, hoola-hoops and laughter.

Show and tell: Today's child leader-of-the day presents a show-and-tell treasure.
12 noon Dismissal
Dedicated Teachers
Our two teachers know all of our children and their individual personalities and quirks. Having two teachers in each class ensures your child is always warmly welcomed by a familiar face, despite the daily change of parent helpers in the classrooms.
Our teachers are fully engaged, innovative and dedicated. Their rapport with children is evident in their daily interactions, and as a parent, your skills will grow by learning from their example.
Burlingame Cooperative Preschool's head teacher, Kris Moore, has taught at the school for over 20 years. Her exceptional program has literally given a generation of children their first school experience. She is trained in first aid and CPR, and keeps current with education techniques by annually attending teacher workshops, classes and conferences.
Assistant teacher Emily Priest is a graduate of Carleton College in Minnesota, and is planning to pursue a Masters in early childhood education. Ms. Priest recently spent a year teaching English in China. She is trained in first aid and CPR.

Play-based curriculum nurtures the whole child
We believe a child's preschool experience should be centered on three essential developmental building blocks:
- language
- social skills
- self-help skills
These are skills that require time and attention to develop and will give young children the tools to adjust to future academic settings. The term "developmentally appropriate practices" reflects the belief that three and four-year old children are meant to play and use imagination in order to begin understanding the world around them.
Art, song, movement, games, stories, gross and fine motor play, outdoor activity, field trips and circle time discussion are just some of the ways we nurture emotional, social, physical and intellectual development in our students through the Power of Play.
Burlingame Cooperative Preschool is a non-profit 503(c)3 organization. We are a non-denominational school and a member of the Parent Child Preschools of Oregon.
We welcome all children.
Celebrating diverse themes and cultures
Throughout the year, we delve into various themes to build social skills, to explore science and nature, and to discover the many cultures of our world. Because we have a large learning space, we set up imaginary play stations that rotate based on the current theme. The senior class takes several field trips throughout the year to build on the learning themes. Here are some of the themes and units we explore:
- September: How to treat each other, Meeting new friends, How we are all different and unique, Shapes and colors
- October: Spiders, Halloween, India Culture
- November: Fall, Reasons to be thankful and the feast of Thanksgiving, Native American culture
- December: Christmas, Hanukkah, Mexico and Germany
- January: Animals in hibernation, Asian New Year celebration, Pajama day, Outer space imaginary play area
- February: People and places in our community (Fire station, grocery store, post office, hospital, restaurant), Valentine's Day
- March: Magnets, weights, measurements and mixing centers, St. Patrick's Day, Five senses, Mother Goose
- April: Spring, Farm play area, Live caterpillars, Birds, Easter celebration and spring parties
- May: Mother's Day teas, Camping and different vacations, Summer, Life in the ocean, Dinosaurs, Reptiles and Creature Feature show
